The diseases of …
The diseases of civilization, which do NOT afflict primitive societies, like diabetes, heart disease, cancer, Alzheimers etc, are a product of the rise of agriculture, which for the first time in history has offered mankind a high starch, high sugar diet, thus causing our epidemic of obesity.
If you reply to this post, please reply to the points I have raised rather than just calling me names.
Thanks, David

It has nothing to …
It has nothing to do with math, it has to do with how much fat the fat cells are signaled to store. It is primarily carbohydrates that cause elevated insulin levels, and therefore eating carbs causes people to become overweight.
A good argument can be made that before agriculture (only 5 to 10 thousand years ago) man had very little access to nutritional carbs (excluding fiber). Our primary energy system was based on fatty acids from animal fats and proteins. Our body runs fine on fat.

Insulin is the only …
Insulin is the only hormonal signal that signals the cells to store fat. Without elevated insulin levels, you can eat any number of calories but never gain weight. I’m sure you have friends that eat like horses, but magically stay thin. I certainly do.
The reason that our nutritional beliefs have strayed from science is that this basic knowledge of endocrinology was not well understood in the 50s and 60s when the concept of calories became fashionable.

Whether our fat …
Whether our fat cells store fat is a function of the hormonal signals that they receive. This is basic endocrinology, there is nothing controversial about this.
From wikipedia on Insulin:
“Insulin causes cells in the liver, muscle, and fat tissue to take up glucose from the blood, storing it as glycogen in the liver and muscle, and stopping use of fat as an energy source”
In simpler words: Insulin signals fat cells to increase capture of fat and simultaneously decreases the release of fat.

Totally ignorant? …
Totally ignorant? Thanks for labeling me. As I said, your information is outdated. If you haven’t read Good Calories, Bad Calories, you need to. It isn’t a diet book, it’s a deep, scholarly and historical look into our nutritional beliefs and their foundation.
I think you would agree that an adolescent doesn’t get taller based on how many calories they eat. Obviously this is controlled hormonally. The same is true of storage of fat.

build muscle, that …
build muscle, that is the way to control fat, muscle burns calories even wehn sleeping
March 4th, 2010 at 11:56 am
no eat meat …
no eat meat definitly, 5-6 meals is perfect, eat carbs in the am and throughout the day switch to protein, lots of chicken and red meat, veggies are a waste of time, when counting calories you need to get the most bang for the buck, veg have too many cals for the little nutrition they provide
March 4th, 2010 at 11:56 am
and fruit can give …
and fruit can give you diabetes, too much sugar, you even said it yourself. and that energy is fleeting then you crash, meat gives you real energy from prtein, etc and lasts, no crash
March 4th, 2010 at 11:56 am
no you must eat …
no you must eat meat to be healthy, medical fact
March 4th, 2010 at 11:56 am
sorry, need carbs …
sorry, need carbs and fat, fat is very key to being helathy, and no ther are hardly any vg athletes, and they do not do very well
March 4th, 2010 at 11:56 am
you are correct …
you are correct with dairy, it is totally unnatrual for humans to take milk products from other animals, bu hey gota love evolution
March 4th, 2010 at 11:56 am
actually animal …
actually animal protien is the most useful, soy is garbage, not meant for human consumption, and causes cancer, and many plants lack protein period, you can not get enough from them, and why are you takiking about other animals? we are humans, please stay on topic
March 4th, 2010 at 11:56 am
incorrect, we do …
incorrect, we do need meat to be healthy, it is the only natural source for creatine and iodine (red meat and fish respectively) so yes we do need it to be healthy, medical fact
March 4th, 2010 at 11:56 am
no they are not …
no they are not random claims, they are coincidence brought on by many other factors, not meat
March 4th, 2010 at 11:56 am
ok the lowdown on …
ok the lowdown on water, yes cold water will burn a few more calories, however hot water does the same, your body can only absorb anything at body temp, no more no less, so it needs to get to that temp. also water does help with defacation, and the part about burning fat is totally true, need water to digest and move waste, basically water is a miracle your body needs tons of it every day, drink eater and eat meat to be healthy
March 4th, 2010 at 11:56 am
half right, carbs …
half right, carbs and fat work together to create energy
March 4th, 2010 at 11:56 am
totally ignorant, …
totally ignorant, can you not do math? dont get on here spreading nonsense. even if you eat the helathiest food on the planet if you eat more calories then you burn you will gain fat, period. if your insulin is out of whack then you can have many iisues, but insulin is not the reason
