They say that 90% of weight loss is nutrition and I need to lose 60 lbs so can anyone help. possibly a fitness trainer

Any ideas for dissertation questions about media/magazines affecting weight loss in women & men?

I am a public health nutrition student..currently thinking of what to do my dissertation on. We have to carry out primary research, so my title needs to be a question which i aim to answer…
I think i want to do something regarding weight loss associated with media/magazines..any ideas how to make my question specific as its a very broad topic?? your answers would be greatly appreciated!!!

It sounds like a very interesting topic! But you are right that it is too broad at the moment and needs to be more specific. Perhaps you could do a comparison study between the types of information given to women on diet and weight loss versus the types of information given to men? Or you could compare how women and men are affected by the information they are exposed to, like to what extent they internalise the information. You could also consider where, how and why women and men seek out information on weight loss in the media (as opposed to getting this info from more reputable or academic sources). I hope that has given you some ideas.

When choosing a topic, just make sure it is one you are interested in, and one that will lend itself to a practical and easy to use research methods.

Residential weight loss center/eating disorder treatment?

I want to find a weight loss center that you can live at full time for a week, few weeks or month.

I’m looking for aspects of:
Nutritionist evaluation/developing a custom food plan.
No fad/unusual diets.
Education about nutrition
Psychological counceling/group therapy/support group to deal with the emotional side of eating.
Exercise components that can be tailored to an individual’s fitness level and/or physical limitations.
Meals are provided while there.
Chance to learn about meal preparation/studying nutrition labels to fit your diet
Reasonably priced – which would probably mean it isn’t taking place at a "spa" or "resort".

An eating disorder treatment place might be able to meet most of these criteria, but I think a lot of them just take place as an add-on to a drug/alcohol rehab center.

So far the only places I’ve found that meet the criteria are Structure House and the Duke Diet and Fitness Center, both in Durham, North Carolina.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Will my skin shrink after a moderate weight loss?

Hey, I’m gonna turn 18 next month and I decided to lose some weight before college. I currently weigh 300 pounds with most of my weight in my gut. Since I have a pretty big build, I think I’ll reach a good weight somewhere around 230. If I follow a good nutrition diet paired with a weight training program should I have any problems with loose skin after a seventy pound loss?

Can I use an Acai berry supplement from Whole Foods for weight loss?

There are many free risk trials on the internet promoting an Acai Berry weight loss supplement. I have researched the ingredients but have not found anything stating that one works better than the others. It would be less stressful for me to go the a nutrition store and buy it in person rather than to place an order online and haveing to wait for the delivery, not including what they charge me if I don’t cancel the free trial (about $80).

Acai berry pills are a waste of money and don’t work. The juice may taste nice but neither the juice nor the pills will help you.

You are right to be worried about ordering on line – there are a lot of scams around. Type in "acai berry scams" to the search for questions and read answers. Many people have lost a lot of money.

All you need to lose weight is a good healthy diet and exercise :)

How do I loss weight when my body won’t stop fighting me?

I am a mother of two and have had loads of trouble lossing weight and getting into shape. I recently tried the slim-fast diet and after 6 weeks ofno weight loss (or gain) i decided to quit because i was getting aggetated. I am at a stand still and I am very unhappy with my appearance. Does anyone out there have any tips on dieting without living on shakes and nutrition bars for the rest of my life? Possibley a way to increase my more then lost energy level?? I will try just about anything if I havent tried it already!!!!

I totally understand exactly where you are at cause I have been there. After my second child I had enough and was determined to get into shape. I hired a Personal Trainer for motivation and learnt so much. Here is the plan i followed good luck, you can do this cause I know it can be done.

If you want to do this it is for life so you need to totally change your way of eating and exercising. This is not a diet rather than a healthy eating plan for life. So no more talking diet cause it means time limit.

Here are the golden rules:
Initially cut down to 1200 (women) – 1500 (men) calories.
Exercise 6 times per week for 1 hours a day. Do three weight sessions and three cardio sessions. No gym involved if you don’t have the access.
Don’t eat carbs after 4pm, never eat carbs within 2 hours of exercise or within 1 hour of exercise.
Drink 3 litres of water per day. You can have a green tea at the end of the day.
Limit your fruit in take to 2 pieces per day.
Never eat dinner after 6pm.
Adopt of low GI eating plan this is sustainable for life!
Make low fat dairy choices

Follow this menu plan as a suggestion:
Breakfast 7am – 1 cup hot water w lemon
20 minutes later have a bowel of oats w water (no honey) OR
fruit salad w low GI soy yogurt
Snack 10am – pear or apple (both low GI)
Lunch 12.30pm – muligrain sandwich w 50g tuna & salad (no butter)
Snack 3pm – low GI yogurt OR skim berry smoothie (no honey or banana) plenty of ice, 1/2 cup skim milk & 1/4 cup yogurt
Dinner 5.30pm – 120g grilled lean meat/fish/prawns/tofu patties (not fried) w spinach salad & mixed vegies (no whites, carbs) OR 3 egg white/soy omlette with ham, cheese and tomato
Snack – 1 scoop of low cal low fat ice cream (if hungry)

Exercise is must be intense. Refer to www.bodybuilding.com for your weights routine. Never do weights two consecutive days have a cardio day in between.

Cardio needs to include running, go hard up stair wells and cycling. If you have access to a gym include boxing and spin classes as well. You get the most benefits from exercise when your body is totally fatigued and this is when you see changes.

To maintain you can increase calories to 1500 (women) – 1800 (men) and reduce exercise sessions to 3-4 times per week. If weight creeps up again due to holiday period etc.. go back to 1200 (women) – 1500 (men) cal and 6 sessions again.

Good luck it worked for me it can work for anyone.

How is metamucil in comparison to other laxatives? Does it bring any weight loss?

I’m trying to give my fitness and nutrition plan a little boost by trying a cleansing method…does metamucil (the powdered stuff) bring any significant weight loss?

Metamucil is very much a fiber product for digestive concerns, the way laxatives are for stripping/purging, which in my view does not burn fat or exhilarate weight loss.
