My cocker spaniel is very overweight. What can I feed her for nutrition, and also will promote weight loss?

Feed her a good quality food for less active and overweight dogs, Wellness makes a very good one.

I’m off work next week & would like to attend a 1 wk intense weight loss camp/retreat during my time off. Help

hello, I have to take next week off from work but I don’t have any plans yet.

What I would love to do is attend a nutrition/weight loss/exercise camp or retreat that lasts one week. I’ve found some that last longer than a week but I need information on a short, 1-week camp/retreat. Does anyone know any place like this? Thanks.

What is the cheapest and fastest weight loss diet?

The Truth about Diet and Weight Loss

I want to talk tonight about weight loss. It’s a subject everyone is worried about. And the problem is that diets don’t work. Everybody has tried a diet. I haven’t met a person yet that’s hasn’t tried something, from kids to people in their eighties; everybody has tried some kind of diet and they just don’t work. In recent studies when they looked at a lot of their major diets (some good one’s, Atkins, The Zone), they put them all together statistically and found a ten pound weight loss on average. Now, these people lost a hundred pounds and gained it back of course. But, all that work, all that money, all those videos, for ten pounds of weight loss?

So the truth is, we have to find a life style that will allow you to stay at a weight that is healthy for you. That’s a much different way of thinking than all this crash dieting that goes on. What you have to learn is how to take care of yourself; you have to learn the appropriate foods; you have to make better choices. That’s the only way it’s going to work.

Are there any sites with personalized nutrition menus aimed at weight loss?

I know there are a ton of dieting programs that you can get your food sent to you in a box, or websites where you pay for recipes corelating to your personal needs. But I was curious as to whether anyone knows of free sites that provide dieting plans and menus, either low calorie or something similar.

Yes! http://www.sparkpeople.com .. you can customize the diet plans according to your food preferences, weight,age , fitness level etc. Best part is that it’s all free. I’ve been using sparkpeople since july and I’ve lost 50lbs…so I know it works!

I want to lose weight, and not just weight really I want to become healthier and more in shape. My whole family has a large frame and when you see me, you would never think I was fat, but I’ve been an athlete my whole life and recently I’ve slowed down and become less active. I guess I can’t seem to get myself motivated, but does anyone have advice on good food to eat and good exercises to do? I can read a million magazines and see jenny craig on tv but I’d rather get advice I know works that I don’t have to pay for! Thanks a lot!

Am I getting the adequate nutrition for weight loss?

At 5’3 I weigh 160 and I am 18. I do both cardio and strength training 3-6 times a week for between an hour and an hour an a half a day.

I usually start my day with oatmeal. Than I eat several small snacks that are usually fruit throughout the day. For lunch I make sure to have whole grains as well as proteins. Same with dinner. I am ALWAYS drinking water through out the day.

Overall, I typically eat:

2-4 servings of whole grains
2-4 servings of fruit
2-3 servings of veggies
and 1-2 servings of dairy (Im not big on eating dairy products for weight loss).
Along with 32oz + of water a day.
I eat about 1300-1500 calories a day.

Is all of my diet acceptable for weight loss? Or should I change it somehow? Thanks!

First I must say congratulations on your effort to maintain a healthy weight. I observe that you are trying to consume a wide variety of foods except I have not seen any natural form of starchy carbohydrate. You need to include foods such as yams, potatoes, pumpkins, cassava, breadfruit, green bananas, etc.

Your servings of vegetables should be far more than that of fruits. You did not note what vegetables you consume or in what form. However I will assume you choose a very wide variety of vegetables. And you should have at least a half of the amount of vegetables you eat raw. 60% of your diet should be of vegetables.

I will assume that you also eat a very wide variety of fresh raw fruits. 20% of your meals should be of fruits.

Whole grains, seeds, nuts, peas, beans, meats, dairy products, fish and other fleshy sea foods would come under the protein category which should make up 10% of your diet. While you do not want to over indulge in fat consumption, it is important that you include fats in your diet. This includes saturated fats since these are very important for among other things, the ultimate production of hormones necessary for all body functions. It means then that of your 10% protein, you could allow at least 10% fat.

The other 10% of your diet should be of starchy carbohydrate, mainly of that which is mentioned above.

For proper toxin flush, metabolism, cooling down and overall skin and cells’ health, you should be drinking 8 to 10 eight ounce glass of water each day. ie. at least 64 oz per day.

If you stick to the above mentioned food ratio, you will find that you’ll remain within the low calorie bracket since most of your meals would be of low calorie foods. Processed carbohydrates are high in calories. Natural foods are low in calories.
